Art Series I - Issos, 333 BC

Our first Art Series measuring rulers set is dedicated to the Battle of Issos, the first encounter between the Macedonian army of Alexander the Great and the Persian army of Darius III. It resulted in the first defeat of a Persian army commanded by its king, the capture of his family, the loss of the imperial treasury and, after the siege of Gaza, the loss of Egypt, the Persian Empire's most lucrative province.

The measuring rulers represent scenes from the Mosaic of Issos, a 1st-century BC Roman copy of an earlier Hellenistic painting. The mosaic depicts the charge of Alexander's hetairoi led by their commander as the soldiers of Darius III try to protect their king. Discovered in the House of the Faun in Pompeii, it is one of the most spectacular and best-known mosaics of the ancient world.

The Art Series measuring templates are a high-quality product; printed in photographic quality, they feature a velvety back that makes them very pleasant to the touch.
